From Umatani Fan Wiki

This page lists the minor characters appearing in the first season of RobiHachi.

Characters are listed in their order of appearance throughout the show, considering them having actual presence in an episode/being a significant part of a flashback rather than them being just briefly mentioned in passing.

Miss Glamorous is the daughter of Mars Tourism Bureau’s chief Chu-Chu Takokawaina. She works in a Martian cabaret club and invites tourists on the streets to enter and spend some time with her.

To support her father’s goal, she, just like the other Martians, wore an octopus bodysuit and put on a good face, but in reality she felt deeply sad about having to live her life a lie and hide her real self just to appease tourists from Earth, who were convinced Martians are octopuses.

After receiving a push for action from Robby, who found her looks alluring even before she was revealed to be a pretty humanoid lady, she bravely removed her bodysuit in front of the cameras during her father’s live promotional broadcast, exposing to the whole universe that Martians are not octopuses and thus starting the process of revolutionising Mars’s perception in the eyes of everyone.

In thanks for his support, she presented Robby her old bodysuit – now no longer needed – and a souvenir gift set. She still works in her old cabaret place – but now as a human.

Chu-Chu Takokawaina is the chief of the Mars Tourism Bureau and the one who was forcing all Martians to wear octopus-shaped bodysuits to appeal to tourists, especially Earthlings, who firmly believed Martians were octopuses. This, among his other actions (like a promotional program What Brings You To Mars? and building a theme park called Takotubo Land), was aimed to help the local tourism industry, which was suffering from a decline of visitors.

While initially he was very opposed to the idea of changes and openly panicked when his daughter removed her bodysuit in front of the camera during a live broadcast, he was eventually convinced by Robby that the most important thing is to be himself, then everything will be alright, and removed his own bodysuit as well, embracing newly found freedom.

Chu-Chu Takokawaina is later shown as being deeply invested in promoting an authentic Mars experience and personally offering theme tours to visitors, now in a regular suit (though still with octopus motifs) and not pretending to be someone he is not. He is the one who, unknowingly, tips Yang and his team that Robby and Hatchi are heading to Isekandar.

His name means “adorable, kissable octopus”.

Pluto Travel Bureau’s chief (given name unknown) is the person in charge of Pluto’s PR. In attempts to bring recognition to his home’s problems and the social movement protesting against demoting Pluto from being a planet, he signed an agreement with an advertising agency Dontsu Inc. which was supposed to assist with Pluto’s promotional campaign. After these efforts brought no fruit, he asked Robby and Hatchi for help, hoping they would repeat their success from Mars.

The chief is at first very reluctant to abandon the until-now used mascots Mr. Pluto (with him wearing its costume) and Ms. Denshi (costume worn by his daughter), purchased from Dontsu Inc. for a fair share of Pluto’s budget, but eventually sees sense in the actions Robby and Hatchi suggest and opens up to their ideas despite initially questioning their legitimacy.

He works very closely with his daughter; both of them can be seen multiple times doing a synchronised pose together. However, between the two of them he seems to be the more decisive one (perhaps due to his official post), as he is the one who argues with Acting Manager Kodai that Pluto didn’t sign any contract for supplementary PR. Both of them, however, are pictured as honest people, as they point out that the heart-shaped ice field of Pluto does not possess any love powers in a way that suggests they did not think about it before as it would be tricking people.

The daughter of the Pluto Travel Bureau’s chief (given name unknown) appears to be working as the chief’s assistant of sorts, accompanying him and participating in official talks regarding Pluto’s PR campaign. She works very closely with her father; both of them can be seen multiple times doing a synchronised pose together and she wore the Ms. Denshi costume to accompany her father’s Mr. Pluto.

After it is decided that Pluto will from now on be marketed as planet of love and will try to attract people struggling in this department by advertising its natural heart-shaped ice field, she, together with Hatchi, stars in a short promotional video in which they play a couple that was having relationship troubles which were resolved by Pluto’s powers and granted them a happy marriage.

Between her and her father, she seems to be the more down-to-earth one: she flat-out answers that Pluto has no selling points and is the one who actually mentions any consultancy fee that should have been paid. Both of them, however, are pictured as honest people, as they point out that the heart-shaped ice field of Pluto does not possess any love powers in a way that suggests they did not think about it before as it would be tricking people.

Kodai is an Acting Manager at Dontsu Inc., an advertising agency specialising in scamming people. He works together with Acting Manager Morisugi – they both are pictured as being somewhat ruthless, trying to literally stomp on their competition with their 20 metre-tall robot.

Between the two of them, it seems he is the one in charge of making decisions – he is the one who spoke first about their new delivery to Pluto, and it’s on his call that the duo climbs robot Mr. Pluto and engages in a “fight” with Hizakuriger.

His name is a reference to kodai kōkoku - deceptive marketing, as he proudly announces himself. It’s a marketing tactic which exaggerates a product's merits. The word kodai itself means “hyperbole”. Kodai is at the same time also named after the main character of Space Battleship Yamato with whom he shares surname and, in a way, position (see: Acting Captain Kodai) and companion (Morisugi named after Mori Yuki).

As she admits herself, her name can be understood as “too good to be true”. The word morisugi itself means “exaggeration”. Morisugi is at the same time also named after a character of Space Battleship Yamato: Mori Yuki, who also works with her respective Kodai.

Gyo-Gyo is a young Odawarlan who works part-time at Merfolk’s Odawarla Specialty Seafood Bowl Restaurant. He wanted to earn and save money to be able to buy an undersea suit, which would allow him to dive underwater. Then, he hoped to be able to catch the Odawarla oarfish and collect the reward money for offering it to the local god so he could pay for his wedding ceremony and marry his fiancée.

Gyo-Gyo gets surprised or even spooked pretty easily – when this happens, he makes a gyo! sound (a trait that was removed in the dub). He is also shown to be a friendly person, answering Hatchi’s questions with no hesitation, seemingly happy to have someone to talk to. He dived deep into the ocean – despite not knowing for sure if he will be able to breathe with his gills – to save someone he met just the day before, and another person whom he saw for the first time a few hours back.

Thanks to this, he discovered his atrophied gills would work just fine with some training, so he doesn’t need an undersea suit. However, it turns out he doesn’t need to go look for the Odawarla oarfish either as it was accidentally caught during the incident, so he already had the money he needed for the wedding ceremony. Gyo-Gyo marries his fiancée very soon, before Robby and Hatchi even leave Odawarla. Hatchi got from him a mug and a towel with a wedding picture on it as a gift, with a similar mug given to Robby as well.

Afterwards, she was forced to run away from Earth to her home planet when the gangster’s wife found out about her. Back at Odawarla, she found employment in a hospital once more and met Robby again when he was hospitalised with food poisoning. This time, she used her charms on him to trick him into buying a “premium fishing set for hunting Odawarla oarfish” (in reality a set of fishing rods), making it the second time she brought misfortune onto him (once by putting him in direct danger, then by scamming him to pay a big amount of money for something worth much less).

She is a very friendly person who, even though she appears a bit shy, is not afraid to reach out to make new acquaintances – she is the one who approached Robby only because she heard him mention he came from Earth and this intrigued her. Afterwards, they went to hot springs together, which she appears to enjoy doing.

As told by her father, in the past Kapako fell victim to the mysterious Don of Haccone, the local underworld boss. She, however, doesn’t think of the event as something that hurt her, exactly – though she recognises it changed her and seems slightly uncomfortable talking about it. Despite this, she still talks about the Don in a positive way, mentioning how he was the one who helped her find her current job and calling him “her benefactor”.

Kapako helped out Robby and Hatchi by giving them some information about the underworld boss and offering a hint about how to deal with him, even though her advice is later ignored.

The Don of Haccone is the underworld boss of the planet known for its hot springs which he brought there from Earth. He built several hot springs on the planet, including the most popular one called Kappappa Hot Springs.

The Don of Haccone (who goes under different names: The Schindler of Haccone, The Godfather of Haccone, The Al Capone of and the Don Juan of Haccone) is universally feared. It is a known fact that no one who met him was left unaffected by the meeting, and some ended up fractured inside. This is due to him having the most love in the universe, which results in this power being too strong and altering people, some to a lamentable degree. The only solution to avoid this is not to look at him directly.

He happily helps those who do visit him, however, issuing travel permits with no problem. Those provided by him hold even bigger value than those issued on one’s home planet and owner of such permit is treated with highest respect.

The Don is a main character in another Umatani series: Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!. There, he is known as Wombat.

Unami is a young boy from Hamama II who was initially mistaken for being a girl by Robby and Hatchi. He works as a local guide, offering his services to tourists. He is not above using a small trickery for gaining clients: he convinced Robby to hire him out of pity by telling a story about how his dad was swallowed by an eel in the prior year and now he is having a hard time. The truth is revealed later: while the swallowing part was true, Unami omitted the fact his dad broke free through the fish’s belly, effectively killing the eel.

Even so, it should be said Unami does his work as a guide pretty well, giving directions, informing about current and upcoming events and providing additional information like there being a prize money for participating in a specific event. He seems to be fairly well-oriented in his planet’s social issues at his young age, as well, as he knows Hamamans have solutions in place to avoid overfishing. The trickery is only about actually being hired first, not underperforming as a guide.

Unami was the one who informed Robby and Hatchi eventually that Hamamans are all men, much to their confusion.

Kenta is a young boy of undefined origin, though he looks human. He comes from a wealthy family, and because of this his parents never have time to spend time with him. The secret police are his only companions and always fuss over him – a fact that Kenta clearly does not enjoy. For this reason, he purposely got lost on Akka Sakka and refused to give his name and home address at the lost kids centre – he wanted to at last spend some time alone.

Talking to Kenta provoked some flashbacks in Hatchi, through which it was shown he also had a lonely childhood and distant parents. However, Hatchi mentioned once he went out at last, he made some interesting encounters, and recommended Kenta to do the same.

In the end, it seems Kenta had his own interesting encounter – another boy apparently his age approached him to ask if he hadn’t dropped his green Isekangaroo toy, then commented he also liked them and showed his own plushie. Very likely, this way Kenta made a new friend himself.

Mecha-Count is the feudal lord of the forces of the East on Mulberry 8. He often adds the shing! onomatopoeia to his sentences. He values apparent strength above other things – as seen when he decides to employ Yang’s mecha, even though it was the first time he saw it, over a known previous choice.

Mecha-Count seems to care very little about humans as slaves – he zaps Allo and Gras without a second thought, gives them only very poor quality food, is genuinely confused as to why Yang is looking for a human man, and is carried on a platform held by several men. One instance is not enough to say this is a pattern necessarily, but while Mecha-Count’s enemy offers his new hire money, he instead offers a favour of choice.

Mecha-Count successfully recruited Yang to fight on his side, but later fell during the revolution started by people of Mulberry 8. Together with King Chamechamecha he agreed to respect the humans in the aftermath of the revolt.

Hoshiro is a young man living on Mulberry 8. He was born in slavery and didn’t know any other life different than what he was doing – collecting clams for mecha lords so they could be exported. He can, at least to some extent, cook – he runs a grilled clams shop, in which Robby and Hatchi both agree his clams taste very good – and later offers them another tasty dish made of what scarce ingredients he has access to, like silkworms. He is also very helpful, explaining to them the current situation on the planet and giving context to the things they are going through.

While it is not explicitly said that Hoshiro is any kind of leader to the humans of Mulberry 8, he certainly has the charisma to rise to be one in the future – it is just him that Robby and Hatchi talked to about a revolution, yet very soon it could be seen that a large group of people followed him to rebel against the mecha lords, meaning he was able to convince a crowd in a short time.

The 4th drama CD reveals his last name is Tetsuno.

The King appears to be sure of his own infallibility, as can be seen when he says “after all, I’m the king” using it as the ending argument. At the same time, he is not actually as flawless as he thinks, for even up close he fails to notice Hizakuriger is mostly empty inside.

King Chamechamecha’s followers seem very loyal to him and chant in his name. One instance is not enough to say this is a pattern necessarily, but while the King’s enemy offers his new hire a favour of choice, he instead offers a big sum of money for just showing up – this suggests he is rather wealthy.

Rock is Hatchi Kita’s grandfather. He was an astronaut and the first man to land on the Moon, beating the Apollo 11 crew to it in his rocket which crashed into the surface with him on board. There, he met an alien who suffered from chronic cramps and thus the first contact between Earthlings and aliens has been made, denoting the start of a new era of cosmic exploration. In thanks for the help he provided, he was offered an alien base and using that as a foundation, made a vast fortune trading with aliens and founded a kingdom – the Luna Land.

Rock was a friend of Yuma Yarge – the anime Galaxy Traveler Hizakuriger, directed by Yuma Yarge, stars two characters named Yuma and Rock, which almost definitely represent director Yarge himself and Rock. Through this, it can be deduced Yuma and Rock were close friends and made a promise to each other as children to go on a space adventure together. As this likely didn’t become reality, Yuma fulfilled the promise by sending animated avatars of himself and his friend on such an adventure instead. Their friendship continued even later, as Ikku reveals he was gifted to Yuma by Rock.

In a now-deleted tweet, director Shinji Takamatsu explained the origin of names within the Kita family: grandfather Rock is named after roku (six), father Shicchi after shichi (seven) and Hatchi, apart from his link to Hizakurige Kitahachi, after hachi (eight) – quotation as per sabakuINK.

Armeni is a Yokkamarchése engineer who built both Nagaya Voyager and the Hizakuriger robot piloted by Robby and Hatchi (actually just a full-sized toy). He owns his own highly-automated hangar in which he agrees to repair the robot after it was damaged on Mulberry 8.

He’s a vivid fan of old anime made on Earth, with his favourite being Galaxy Traveler Hizakuriger. When he went to Earth on a pilgrimage to the homeland of Hizakuriger, he met Rouche Yarge and traded with him – Rouche exchanged various treasured (by Armeni’s standards) materials related to Hizakuriger which he inherited from his father, the director of this anime, for all of Armeni’s spending money, Nagaya Voyager and the full-sized Hizakuriger toy.

Armeni is a member of a fan club called Hizakuriger Archive. When he learns Robby is the grandson of anime director Yuma Yarge, whom he greatly admires, he invites the man to a meeting of the club. Then, upon learning Robby remembers the 12th episode of Hizakuriger which is lost media on Yokkamarché, he tries to forcibly extract Robby’s memory of the episode despite knowing this will cause permanent and absolute memory loss.

Ultimately, Armeni ends up being the one who has his memory extracted by Yang, who wanted to see his favourite show Binan Shonen Love-Love once more.

Rouche is Robby Yarge’s father and Yuma Yarge’s son. In the past, he used to be a farmer who was selling Nerima Daikon Radishes, however, this changed after an unexpected encounter with Armeni, who came to Earth on a pilgrimage to the homeland of Hizakuriger. In exchange for all of Armeni’s spending money, a spacecraft Nagaya Voyager and a full-sized Hizakuriger robot toy, he gave the other man his keepsakes of Yuma – old materials related to the Hizakuriger anime. This way the Yarge family suddenly grew in wealth.

Rouche has a strained relationship with his son – Robby left his household when he was still a teen and has been estranged from his parents for a long time. He also refers to his father as “lousy”, but doesn’t seem very surprised to find out Rouche sold Yuma’s keepsakes, which suggests Robby in general doesn’t have a good opinion about his father.

In a now-deleted tweet, director Shinji Takamatsu explained the origin of names within the Yarge family: Rouche’s name comes from the word yajirushi, meaning arrow symbol – quotation as per sabakuINK.

Yuma is Robby Yarge’s grandfather and Rouche Yarge’s father. He was an anime director – the exact timeframe of his career is not provided, but he had one show airing in 1969, Galaxy Traveler Hizakuriger, and it’s known this was not his first series (this spot is taken by Space Ronin Tenka-san).

Hizakuriger stars two characters named Yuma and Rock, which almost definitely represent Yuma Yarge himself and Rock Kita – through this, it can be deduced Yuma and Rock were close friends and made a promise to each other as children to go on a space adventure together. As this likely didn’t become reality, Yuma fulfilled the promise by sending animated avatars of himself and his friend on such an adventure instead. Their friendship continued even later, as Ikku reveals he was gifted to Yuma by Rock.

Yuma passed away when Robby was only five and was buried with the master tapes of his productions, but his grandson keeps warm – albeit very vague – memories of him, mostly of cuddling. As Rouche never talked of his father, Robby didn’t remember Yuma was an anime director until he found out about this on Yokkamarché – there he also remembered watching Yuma’s anime with his grandfather. He says he would watch the same shows all over again, which may suggest Yuma used to spend a lot of time with his grandson when he still could.

In a now-deleted tweet, director Takamatsu explained the origin of names within the Yarge family: Yuma’s name comes from the word yajiuma, meaning sightseer – quotation as per sabakuINK.

The Captain is shown to be deeply dedicated to his job – he exclaims even if he and his own ship have to do it alone, they will still protect the Moon prince. Stemming directly from this dedication, it can be said that the Captain, at least when on duty, puts his assigned tasks above potential personal sentiments, as seen when he immediately orders to pursue the Nagaya Voyager, paying little to no attention to the four ships of the Luna Guard that have just been knocked down and their crews. He also engages in battle with a vessel that moments ago effortlessly defeated the majority of his fleet and eventually has his own spaceship rammed into Yang’s craft in order to free the Nagaya Voyager – with Hatchi on board – from Yang’s grasp.

In the aftermath of the last event, the Captain is injured when his ship crashes into Dontsu’s office building, but either the injuries are not severe or his sense of duty is so strong that he still shows up to escort Hatchi back to the Moon after the younger man’s photoshoots are over.

In reality Spacia is just an employee hired by Dontsu Inc. – an actress impersonating a compassionate priestess to coerce people to spend money, who actually seems to be rather rude, as she demands a pay rise in a very aggressive way and loudly complains about her job. She also instantly drops her façade the moment the visitors realise the truth about the fake Akafucrystal and starts yelling at them, which shows she is not particularly dedicated to her role and to upkeeping the grand lie of Isekandar but was treating this just as a job she didn’t even like.

Spacia is likely named after Queen Starsha of Iskandar, of which Isekandar is partially based off.

Unks is an older man whose exact position in the Luna Land is not disclosed – but his rank is high enough that Hatchi, being a prince, knows him personally and he cooperates directly with the Luna Guard. It’s possible he might be the ambassador on Earth, or someone from the close circle of the Moon’s royal family, perhaps responsible in particular for looking after the prince.

Unks noticed when Hatchi ran away from the embassy and observed him all the time from the distance, making Hatchi think he managed to actually escape – but stepped in when the prince was about to leave the Earth. He was also present after Hatchi returned and was called a hero who saved the Earth, clearly waiting to collect him this time. However, Unks seemingly didn’t go with the Luna Guard to space to chase their runaway prince, or at the very least was not shown as present on either of the fleet ships.
