Gras (グラ, Gura) is an employee of Yang's Finance.
Background[edit]
Gras’s story prior to the beginning of the anime is not detailed – the only mentioned thing is that he used to watch a lot of anime when he was a child. It’s not clear why Allo found him on the streets, though Gras didn’t appear to be looking neglected, so perhaps he was just there for the time being, not due to economic situation. Regardless, Allo recruited Gras to Yang’s Finance. The exact timing of this is not defined, only that when Gras joined Yang’s Finance, Robby was involved in a click-fraud malware scam.
During the main course of the story, Gras is decidedly supporting his boss Yang through all actions, even if he doesn’t understand them (at least initially) or they pose some risk to him. However, unlike Allo, Gras voices his objections and complaints at times – be it about sudden change of plans or risky speeds. He is then quickly reprimanded, or even catches himself and takes back his words, but this shows while he supports Yang, it’s not as blind as in his coworker’s case. Through their whole journey Gras is excited about being able to visit new places and sometimes checks recommendations on TripSunvisor – he’s also the one who will run off to buy some local specialities.
Despite the story’s ending not being favourable to Yang (and thus to Gras, who supported him), Gras is later shown as still loyally staying by his boss’s side, not holding a grudge for crashing them into a building and risking their lives.
Appearance[edit]
Gras has a pink afro and purple eyes. He has a slight tan.
He wears a light blue shirt with a standing collar and two frog button closures. Over this, he wears a two-tone suit jacket, with dark purple on his right and light purple on his left. The lapels are the reverse. He has a light blue handkerchief in his left breast pocket. Gras has two-tone shorts that are light purple on his right and dark purple on his left. He has brown loafers. There are scuffs on his calves, and a bandage on his right shin.
Personality[edit]
Gras is a teen who tries to show a professional side, but his playfulness and young age very often seep through that. It’s clear he wants to prove his worth to his boss Yang, which suggests he is proud of being given an important job despite his young age and is determined to show the decision to hire him was not a bad one.
Compared to Allo, his dedication to following his boss is more careful – though no one can accuse him of lack of loyalty, as he supports Yang through until the end. Gras actually speaks up when he’s not content with something, like having to turn back just as they were reaching Haccone (where they were promised a visit in the local hot springs) just because Robby was sighted on Mars. However, in line with Allo, Gras praises almost everything Yang does and says, but also provides some friendly care – like ensuring the man has a constant stock of his preferred candy or trying to find an activity he would enjoy.
He can be forgetful and mischievous at times – it’s because he somehow forgot he had Allo’s comb stuck in his hair that he and his older coworker ended up arranging a (ultimately unnecessary) detour to Tottuka under false notion of Robby being spotted there. The reason was his idea, too. In addition, when he heard the Mars Lost and Found Centre had three combs: plastic, silver and gold, he answered they lost a gold one, despite Allo’s comb being plastic (and eventually not even in the Centre).
Etymology[edit]
Gras’s name is based off Gurran from Armored Trooper Votoms (to go together with Allo based off Arron, Gurran’s twin).
Trivia[edit]
Gras is allergic to mugwort.
When reaching Isekandar, Gras mentions he promised his grandma in the country to get her an Akafucrystal, yet not even once during the story mentioned his parents. It could be that they are not around for some reason or they don’t have a good relationship.
Yang, Allo and Gras were able to complete a marathon relay on Tottuka – all of them must be in a good physical condition to be able to do this
