Allo (アロ, Aro) is an employee of Yang's Finance.
Background[edit]
Allo comes from a poor family and suffered from poverty as a child. Once, he was given some allowance money to buy himself some cotton candy, but then bumped into a friend, dropped it into a puddle and it dissolved. This event is so prevalent in his memory that now, when he is better off, he has a cotton candy maker of his own so he can make more whenever he wishes.
It seems that poverty followed him to his adult life as well, for when Yang found him on the streets, Allo was looking rather miserable. The exact timing of this is not defined, only that when Allo joined Yang’s Finance, Robby was involved in a sure-fire gambling scam. Afterwards, it was Allo who recruited Gras to join the company as well.
During the main course of the story, Allo is decidedly supporting his boss Yang through all actions, even if he doesn’t understand them (at least initially) or they pose some risk to him. He’s one of the pilots of Yang’s ship, brings up important news he finds and confirms that Robby was sighted on a specific planet (though how Yang’s Finance gains access to this information remains unclear). Although he is more serious than Gras, Allo is also excited about their space excursion and enjoys the time he can spend sightseeing before the final showdown.
Despite the story’s ending not being favourable to Yang (and thus to Allo, who supported him), Allo is later shown as still loyally staying by his boss’s side, not holding a grudge for crashing them into a building and risking their lives.
Appearance[edit]
Allo has short blond hair and brown eyes. His bangs are curled artificially in a loop that stands upright, and the hair at his neck sweeps upwards. He has a goatee and a flat, gold necklace.
He wears a light blue shirt with a standing collar and a frog button closure. Over this, he wears a two-tone suit jacket, with light purple on his right and dark purple on his left. The lapels are the reverse. He has a light blue handkerchief in his left breast pocket. Allo has two-tone dress pants that are dark purple on his right and light purple on his left. He has dark gray loafers.
Personality[edit]
Allo is a man who strives to appear serious and professional at all the time, even when in reality he has his moments of doubt as well. This is because he wants to prove his worth to his boss Yang, who picked him up from the streets and whom he greatly adores and tries to imitate to some extent; that’s why he recruited Gras to join Yang’s Finance using the same words Yang spoke to him before. To be more to his boss’s liking, Allo takes great care in how he looks, often combing his hair and even reprimanding Gras for not doing the same.
He follows Yang blindly – he will scold Gras for complaining about sudden changes of their plans (which result in cancelling promised sightseeing), reminding that Yang’s decisions are final and not to be questioned. This can be also seen when Yang decides to blow up the door to Robby’s apartment and Allo pulls out a missile launcher without a moment of hesitation. His admiration extends to praising almost everything Yang does and says, but also to some friendly care – like ensuring the man has a constant stock of his preferred candy or trying to find an activity he would enjoy.
Allo does not shy from showing his emotions, and when he does, he does it expressively – he drops to his knees to cry a puddle when it’s confirmed that Martians are not octopuses (and his vision of them was ruined), and also never holds back from loudly cheering for Yang even in public spaces. He also visibly panics with Gras when his comb goes missing, though as he is more determined to make a good impression than open with his feelings, he pretends everything is fine in front of Yang.
Etymology[edit]
Allo’s name is based off Arron from Armored Trooper Votoms (to go together with Gras based off Gurran, Arron’s twin).
Trivia[edit]
Allo is allergic to ragweed.
The comb Allo received from Yang is his treasure. He panicked when he thought he lost it.
Yang, Allo and Gras were able to complete a marathon relay on Tottuka – all of them must be in a good physical condition to be able to do this.
