Character Page Style Guide

From Umatani Fan Wiki

So, you want to create or edit a Character Page on the Wiki. If you're creating a page, make sure that this character:

 1. Doesn't already have a page
 2. Isn't a minor character that shares a page with other minor characters

Once you're on the editing page, make sure it's using the Character Page Template:

Infobox[edit]

In this section, paste the Character Infobox Template as shown below:

All sections except Kana and Romaji can be left blank. When left blank, their headers do not appear in the Infobox. Do not delete the section from the template.

img[edit]

For the Image section, utilize the Tabber code to add one or more images to the Infobox. Ensure that the tabs are named to match characters from the same series, file names and extensions are correct, and the dimensions are set as 200x200px. The images used should be cropped squares.

<tabber>
Layer One Option One =

|-|Layer One Option Two =

|-|Layer One Option Three =

</tabber>

The Tabber code looks confusing at first, but is very intuitive. The names for the first layer of tabs are followed by an equal sign. Every tab on this level except for the first has a prefix of a hyphen between two pipelines, to signify that they are not the default tab.

Layer One Option One =
|-|Layer One Option Two =
|-|Layer One Option Three =

The second layer of tabs is within curly brackets, and starts with a hashtag to signify the Tabber tag.

Similar to the first layer of tabs, to have multiple tabs on the second level, all but the first option must be preceded with the following permutation of curly brackets, exclamation points, and hyphen.

-

capt[edit]

A notable, spoiler-free quote can be used for the Caption section. Use quotation marks, a line break after the tag, and link to the page for its source.

"Here is a notable quote. The text will wrap around in the Infobox, but it should not be an extremely long quote. It will appear using the 'small' text style."<br>Link Text

kana[edit]

In the Kana section, paste the character's name in Japanese, as shown on their character sheet.

romaji[edit]

In the Romaji section, write the pronunciation of the character's name in the Roman alphabet. Romanize the Hiragana of the name if found on the character sheet. Do not add formatting marks for italics, as it's built into the Infobox's code.

nicknames[edit]

If the character has a Nickname given by another character, link to the character that gives the nickname as follows:

Nickname (Name of Giver)

alias[edit]

If the character has an Alias they use for an alter-ego, format it with the English name, followed by parentheses with the kana and italicized romanization as follows:

Character's Alias (キャラクターのエイリアス, Kyarakutaa no Eiriasu)

Separate aliases with line breaks.

alternateTranslations[edit]

If a character's name, nickname, or alias has an Alternate Spelling or Translation that is used in other materials, use the following format:

Alternate Name (where it's found)

Examples of this are Funimation's subtitles for Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! or names that have contradicting romanizations in merchandise.

If they have multiple heights given in canon that are not due to a transformation or other circumstances, use the Reference tags that will create a hyperlink to a footnote at the end of the page:

###cm<br>

Intro[edit]

The Intro section is what comes before the other sections. It should only be one or two sentences about their role in the series, starting with the character's name in bold, then the Kana and romanization in parentheses, separated by a comma, with the latter italicized.

Character Name (キャラクター・名前, Kyarakutaa Namae)

Background[edit]

In the Background section, describe the character's backstory and events during the story.

Appearance[edit]

In the Appearance section, describe the character's physical appearance, followed by their main outfit. Alternate outfits can be added under subheadings.
Characters from series where they wear near-identical outfits have templates to streamline the writing process.

In the Personality section, describe the character's starting personality and any character growth they went through over the course of the series.

Etymology[edit]

In the Etymology section, describe the origin of the character's name, as well as any facts about the origin that are referenced in the character's appearance or personality.

Trivia[edit]

In the Trivia section, list any facts that were not mentioned in previous sections. Utilize the Trivia and Quotes Template, one for each trivia item.

Gallery[edit]

In the Gallery section, multiple image thumbnails can be shown in a grid. Because this section was added retroactively, it is set up so a heading will not appear if no gallery content is specified. Check the Images Style Guide for more information on formatting.

Categories[edit]

The Categories section is used for organizing pages on the Wiki so they can be found in specific categories. All characters should have the Characters category, followed by the category for characters in that series. There are also categories for specific groups of characters in a series. Look at the Characters category page for examples of these existing categories.

Notes[edit]

The Notes section is not a field found in the template. However, it is a section that will appear at the bottom of the page, to ensure all reference footnotes will appear together. To add a reference:
